Paliyakkara Church, also known as St. George Orthodox Church, is one of the oldest churches and one of the best places to visit in Thiruvalla. The church displays frescoes on the eastern wall as well as architecture from the medieval period. Another unique feature of the church is that small statues of tigers and elephants can be seen on either side of the large wooden logs on the roof. The Sri Vallabha Temple is adjacent to the church and a confluence of both Hinduism and Christianity can be seen in the context of the festivals celebrated in the temple and the church, especially the ten-day festival celebrated in April and May.

Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Shri Vallabha Temple is an important pilgrimage site for Vaishnavas. One of the total 108 Vaishnava temples in India, this temple is built in the Kerala style of architecture. The 50 feet flagpole of the temple is made of a single rock of granite with a 3 feet Garuda (vehicle of Lord Vishnu) on its top. Apart from Lord Vishnu, there is also a temple of Lord Sudarshan in the complex. The daily ritual of the temple includes a Kathakali performance as an offering to the deity in the evening after the puja is over. The main festival celebrated at the temple is Uthrasiveli, where the Ketukaza procession takes place.

Dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi, also known as Chakkulathamma, a mother who answers the calls of her devotees, the Chakkulathu Kavu Temple is believed to be over 3000 years old. The temple is situated between the Pamba River and the Manimala River, which flow on either side of the temple. Pongala is a major festival celebrated in the temple during the month of Vrischikam (November/December) during which devotees gather in large numbers. Women devotees bring coconut, jaggery and rice in round earthen pots for cooking. Then the chief priest lights the divine fire inside the sanctum sanctorum so that the women can cook. Since this temple is situated between two rivers, boat races can often be seen here.
