Laos Reopens To Tourists And Travellers From Abroad

Laos joins the list of nations that have lifted all COVID-related entry restraints for fully vaxxed tourists on 9 May 2022. A senior official said that the number of Coronavirus infections and deaths has gone down drastically in the country. Consequently, the government has decided to reopen tourism. And in a bid to promote tourism, all land and air routes are also open now.

However, the international checkpoints of Laos will be reopened for overseas tourists and citizens, only if they are fully vaccinated. For those who are unvaccinated, a Rapid Antigen Test report issued within 48 hours of departing the origin country will be needed.


Even though there are no more stringent rules and restrictions on travel and entry, visitors are advised to follow health and safety measures while in the country. Visitors are also advised to follow the mask mandate when using public transportation and indoor restaurants. Face coverings are mandatory only in healthcare and social welfare facilities. Social distancing and other safety and health measures are to be taken while visiting public places like parks, national parks and zoos. Same is to be followed while using public spaces including heritage sites and other attractions.

Thipphakone Chanthavongsa, Deputy Minister and Deputy Head of the Prime Minister’s Office said that the government believed it’s time to develop the economy by relaxing COVID-19 curbs tourists.

The temporary travel restrictions and rules that were in place till April stand curbed for now. Travellers can now follow the entry rules that were in place before the COVID-19 pandemic.
