Google Google Maps Introduces estimated toll charges journey

Google, as it always does, has introduced a new feature.

Google Maps – Google’s web mapping platforms are ready to make lives better for travellers and drivers. The newly offered feature is exclusively available for users in India, the US, Japan and Indonesia. The new feature rolled out by Google suggests estimates of toll charges on a given route when travelling in the above-mentioned countries.

Google has mapped “nearly 2000” toll roads in India, the US, Japan and Indonesia and will make it available for its iOS and Android apps. More countries will be supported with the same feature in the coming years.

This new feature rolled out by Google will help users to choose the mode of travel while on road; making it easy to choose between the toll and regular roads.

Google had first announced the ‘toll’ feature in April.

Google says the rates displayed are based on “reliable information from local tolling authorities,” taking into account the number of tolls and time of the day when calculating the total cost. There is also a toggle to “avoid tolls” while calculating routes.

Earlier, Google Maps was able to notify the users when a route was due for a toll, but could not calculate the toll. However, this has changed with the latest update.

According to Google, this feature is available in iOS and Android apps on approximately 2000 toll roads in the United States, India, Japan and Indonesia. It says it is planned to add support in more countries ‘soon.’
