Favorite 6 Hostels in Chicago: Boasting a robust food scene (don’t miss the Chicago-style pizza), fun nightlife, and lots of green space, Chicago isn’t just one of my favorite cities in the United States – it’s is one of my favorite cities in the world! Although the winters here are harsh, it is a beautiful green city in the summer that offers visitors a plethora of things to see and do.

I have been visiting Chicago for a decade and have stayed at many hostels here. There are many things to consider when choosing a hostel. The four most important criteria for choosing the best Chicago hostel are:

  1. Location – Chicago is huge and it can take a while to get around. Choose a place at the heart of the sites and the nightlife you want to see. All hostels listed here are located in central locations.
  2. Price – In Chicago, you really get what you pay for, so if you go for a really inexpensive hotel, you’ll probably get a small, cramped hostel that doesn’t offer great service.
  3. Approvals – Each hostel in town offers free Wi-Fi, and most have free breakfast, but if you want more than that, be sure to do your research to find the hostel that best suits your needs!
  4. Staff – All the hostels listed here have incredible staff! They are super friendly and knowledgeable. Even if you don’t end up in one of the locations listed below, be sure to check the reviews to make sure you end up in a place where the staff are helpful and friendly! They can make or break an inn!

To help you plan your trip, here is my list of Chicago hostels that I like the most. If you don’t want to read the longer list below, the following hostels are the best in each category:

Best hostel for budget travelers: HI Chicago
Best hostel for families: HI Chicago
Best hostel for women traveling alone: Freehand Chicago
Best hostel for digital nomads: Chicago Getaway Hostel

Although the rooms are nothing special, the hostel has a large common area and is in a great location.
