It was the summer of 1913 when a young boy named José Paronella moved to Australia in an attempt to create a life of comfort and contentment for his young bride-to-be, Matilda, and himself. Paronella was determined to build the home she had dreamed of for her beloved fiancé. After years of hard work, Paronella managed to find an immaculate piece of land in the middle of the forest, overlooking Mena Creek Falls. He decided to go to Spain to his beloved wife, but when he arrived, he found that Matilda had married someone else in his absence. Saddened and disappointed, Paronella decided to return to Australia. Before leaving, he proposed to Matilda’s younger sister, Margarita, and to everyone’s surprise, she accepted! The following year the couple boarded a ship, turned the immaculate land into their home, and lived happily ever after.

2. Brynhyfraid Castle

6. Mount Crosby Castle
“Welcome to your very own 4 bedroom castle with an open kitchen, exactly how you wanted it and a king size bed.” With these words, Ben ends his tour of the castle he has renovated for his wife, Penelope. Until recently, Mount Crosby Castle was on the market for auction. However, 2009 brought Ben and Penelope together and they decided to make this medieval castle their home. The modern structure and amenities make it clear the couple prioritize their comfort over everything else, yet there’s a drawbridge connecting the rustic feel of the architecture, which Penelope cites for its “visual appeal.” Your Ben may not be able to buy a castle, but one can certainly dream, right?

While Castle Rumble is now occupied by real people, they often oblige tourists to take guided tours around their home.
